Who we are
Stewart Bladeworks was founded in 2020, however like most knife makers, the love for knives goes back much further…
Growing up in the South, knives were a part of everyday life. It was rare to find a gentleman that didn’t have some form of cutting tool on them. As a kid, I HAD to have one. My first knife was a well-used butcher knife that was found while playing in my grandmother’s barn. Many sticks and limbs were hacked away with that knife, but alas, it had to be put back in the barn when I was done with it. Eventually, I graduated to a small Case slip-joint, a multi-bladed Swiss Army knife, and a few cheap “Survival Knives” with the compass in the handle (you know the ones). As I grew older and began to appreciate quality tools, I graduated to better knives such as Spyderco and Bark River.
Being a firm believer in the study of self-defense, I also began seeing the advantages of carrying a fixed blade on a daily basis. I began looking at knives such as the Janich-designed Spyderco “Ronin II” and wondered, “Is that something I could do?”. This started my deep-dive into the theory of knife design, metallurgy, and heat treating. Hours and hours of videos, articles, and books later, I purchased a cheap 1×30 grinder, a few blanks of steel, and got started. Several mountains of dust, a few thousand dollars worth of toys (aka tools), and a couple scars later, here we are!
